The State of  California is located on the west coast of the United States and became the 31st state in 1850.

Even the state motto is excited about California. “Eureka!” (meaning triumph or discovery) was designated the state motto in 1963 and attributed to the discovery of gold in the state. Gold also happens to be the official mineral symbol of California.

One fact of interest is that more turkeys are raised in California than any other state.

There is plenty to see in this sunny state starting with many great natural resources such as Yosemite National Park, Death Valley, Lake Tahoe and Sequoia & Kings Canyon National Parks.

The state flower is the California Poppy, the California Quail is the state bird and the Grey Whale is the state marine mammal.  All things associated with the desert and ocean of the west coast.

For those looking for a more man made adventure outing there are amusement parks such as world famous Disneyland and SeaWorld and iconic Golden Gate Bridge.

I love Cali, I lived there for about 3 years a while back while I was working in the Thoroughbred Race industry. I worked at Santa Anita, Hollywood Park and Del Mar.

Del Mar deep in southern California was my favorite place.  It’s a beautiful location where the ocean beach is never more than a stone’s throw away.  in Spanish actually means “from sea.”

Later I would go back to visit Twenty-nine Palms, and Camp Pendleton where my sons were stationed with the United States Marine Corps.

I also had a very nice vacation for 14 days which started in San Francisco for some sight-seeing and then at AT&T Park attended a MotoCross Race.  We then took the 7 days between races to drive down the PCH to San Diego to view another MotoCross race at the then Qualcomm Stadium.
